IPL Photofacial Candidates
Aging and environmental elements can have many harmful effects on the skin. While there are many cosmetic surgery procedures to address loss of elasticity, excessive skin, and deep lines and wrinkles, not all patients require this degree of alteration. Many patients are dissatisfied with the appearance of the skin because of pigmentation problems such as freckles and age spots, tone problems, and minimal creasing that results from sun exposure. These are not problems that can be corrected through surgery. However, plastic surgeon William C. Cohen does offer non-surgical treatment to correct these issues. For our Orange County patients, IPL photofacial can improve the tone and skin pigmentation to leave the skin refreshed and rejuvenated.
Am I a Candidate?
For many patients who are dissatisfied with the tone, pigmentation, or overall appearance of the skin, laser skin treatments and other non-invasive options may be the solution. These are safe, non-invasive procedures that can significantly improve the appearance of the skin without requiring any surgical intervention or downtime. An IPL photofacial is one such treatment that can improve the appearance of the skin by correcting the following imperfections:
- Pigmentation concerns such as freckles and age spots
- Redness of the skin due to rosacea or other skin conditions
- Sun damage
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Small acne scars
Aside from the presence of one or more of these conditions, good candidates for IPL photofacial are those who are most likely to respond well to treatment. The light energy that is utilized during an IPL photofacial will work best on patients with fair skin and those who do not have a tan at the time of treatment. IPL photofacials will also work best on patients who have maintained a degree of skin elasticity.
Patients should have realistic expectations for the results of treatment. Patients should not expect to receive their desired results after just one treatment. IPL photofacial will likely require a series of treatments so ideal candidates are those patients who are willing to maintain a treatment schedule until they have achieved their desired results. It is important to note that an IPL photofacial is not just for use on the face. This technique can also be used to improve the appearance of skin on the neck, chest, and hands.
Poor Candidates
While IPL photofacial is a good option for many patients, there are those who do not make ideal candidates for this treatment. Patients who will not benefit from IPL photofacial include the following:
- Patients with dark skin tone or a deep tan
- Patients with poor skin elasticity
- Patients with deep lines, wrinkles, or acne scars
- Women who are pregnant
For these patients Dr. Cohen can discuss alternate treatment options to help patients improve the appearance of the skin and achieve a refreshed, more youthful appearance.
