Rhinoplasty for a Crooked Nose
The nose is the central feature of the face. Aside from being one of the first features that you notice about another person, the nose also helps to balance out facial proportions. Because the nose is so prominent, it can affect a person’s confidence when he or she is dissatisfied with its appearance. Many patients feel as though their nose is not as straight and even as they desire. A crooked nose can detract from other facial features and compromise the symmetry of the face.
Rhinoplasty surgery corrects imperfections regarding the size and shape of the nose to enhance its beauty and improve a patient’s confidence. Plastic surgeon William C. Cohen is happy to discuss how rhinoplasty for a crooked nose can help his Orange County, CA patients achieve their aesthetic goals.
Straightening a Crooked Nose
Rhinoplasty surgery is a very complex procedure. The bones and cartilage of the nose are extremely delicate, so it is always best to work with a plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Cohen, who is skilled and experienced in rhinoplasty surgery. As complex as rhinoplasty can be, straightening a crooked nose is actually one of the most complex rhinoplasty techniques.
Dr. Cohen is careful to thoroughly repair the issues that cause a crooked nose so that his patients can enjoy the long-term benefits of rhinoplasty treatment. To properly straighten a crooked nose, Dr. Cohen repositions the septum and nasal bones. By repositioning the entire underlying structure of the nose, Dr. Cohen can create a straighter nose and produce long lasting results.
The Procedure
Rhinoplasty surgery is generally performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient under the effects of general anesthesia. Once the patient is comfortable, Dr. Cohen will begin the procedure by making the surgical incisions.
Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed using either a closed or open technique. A closed technique involves placing all of the incisions inside the nose, typically in the base of the nostrils. The open technique involves an external incision, typically across the base of the column that connects the two nostrils. Once the incisions have been made, the skin of the nose will be lifted so that Dr. Cohen can access the underlying bone and cartilage structures. Necessary adjustments will then be made before placing the skin back over the nose and closing the incision. After rhinoplasty surgery, a splint is placed over the nose to keep it in place while the bones set and the tissues heal.
