Eyelid Surgery vs. Brow Lift
Facial wrinkles are an unfortunate side effect of aging. Even worse, environmental elements can speed up the aging process, leaving some patients looking older.
Facial plastic surgery can minimize the appearance of wrinkles and creases, but it is important that patients choose a treatment method that is most appropriate for their unique needs and goals.
Two facial plastic surgery procedures that are commonly misunderstood are eyelid surgery and brow lift. These procedures target different areas of the face. A brow lift smooths and tightens the skin along the forehead, while eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the skin along the upper or lower eyelid.
Dr. William C. Cohen discusses eyelid surgery vs. brow lift with our Orange County, CA patients so they know which procedure will best help them attain their aesthetic goals.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is one of the most commonly performed facial plastic surgery procedures. Eyelid surgery is far less invasive than many other plastic surgery procedures, but can still give patients the more youthful and refreshed appearance they desire. A patient may choose to undergo upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both, depending on their needs.
Eyelid surgery focuses on the skin and muscles directly above or below the upper or lower eyelids. During the eyelid surgery procedure, tissues can be removed and skin can be tightened.
Eyelid surgery can address a number of cosmetic concerns, including:
- Heavy upper eyelids
- Droopy, tired looking eyes
- Undereye bags
Brow Lift Surgery
Traditionally, brow lift surgery was a more invasive procedure that required a long incision along the length of the hairline. However, Dr. Cohen offers the endoscopic brow lift technique. An endoscopic brow lift allows patients to experience the benefits of a traditional brow lift through a procedure that is much less invasive and has a shorter recovery period.
Brow lift surgery targets the skin and muscles from the top of the brow line up to the top of the forehead. During treatment, excess tissues and muscle can be removed, and the skin can be lifted and smoothed.
A brow lift may be ideal for patients with cosmetic concerns such as:
- Frown lines
- Horizontal creases along the forehead
- Droopy eyebrows
Getting the Most Out of Treatment
Dr. Cohen will carefully consider each patient’s needs and desires when recommending an appropriate treatment plan. Many patients can get the results desire as long as they choose a procedure that focuses on their primary areas of concern.
However, some patients may benefit from a combination of multiple procedures. Although eyelid surgery and a brow lift are both effective in providing results, each is limited in its scope. If a patient is concerned with wrinkles along the forehead, as well as saggy skin around the eyelids, the best way to address all of these concerns is by combining the two procedures.
